‘Pay or Die’ documentary: Punish health workers charging pregnant women unapproved fees – Kwame Gakpey

Member of Parliament for Keta Kwame Gakpey has urged the Ministry of Health to investigate and punish officials of various public hospitals charging pregnant women unapproved fees.

Speaking to JoyNews, Monday, he stated that the practice uncovered in a Corruption Watch documentary ‘Pay or Die’ is unacceptable, hence the need to probe further and halt the extortion of money from pregnant women.

CID begins investigations into alleged corruption in school feeding in Ashanti Region

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into an alleged corruption in the school feeding program in the Ashanti Region.

About fifty three high schools in the region are reported to be engaging in corrupt practices on the program.

In a letter addressed to the GES Regional Director, the Service listed 53 schools to be investigated for alleged corruption in implementing the Free SHS Feeding Programme.

According to the Deputy Director-General, Anthony Boateng, the CID has informed GES about the ongoing investigation.

Dr Opuni directed testing period for agrochemicals to be shortened – Witness

The former Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr Stephen Opuni, directed that the testing period of agrochemicals and fertilizers for use by the board should be shortened.

Police Detective Chief Inspector, Thomas Prempeh Mercer, the investigator in the trial, told the court.

Mr Prempeh said Dr. Opuni in giving the directive to the scientist from the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) present at a meeting, said suppliers did take undue advantage of the monopoly they enjoyed and charged high prices on their products.
